PHOENIX, AZ – SSGT. Kenneth Champlin, Retired USMC recently received a hero’s welcome along with the keys to his completely renovated new home provided by NFL All-Pro Jared Allen, and with the help of Peak One Builders & Restoration. Ken lost both of his legs below the knees and suffered traumatic brain injury from an IED attack during a dismounted patrol in Al Anbar Province Iraq. Upon returning to the United States, Champlin found it difficult to adapt to civilian life with his new handicap and struggled to obtain employment.
Ken was living in a low-income housing apartment in Phoenix, Arizona, where his apartment was on a second level without an elevator or wheelchair ramp. It was small and cramped, making it impossible for Ken to use his wheelchair and leaving him with the only the option of crawling on the floors when his legs were in pain from his prosthetics. Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors Foundation purchased a home for Champlin in the requested location. Some of the upgrades done by Peak One Builders & Restoration included widening of the doorways, wheelchair ramps, an open kitchen, custom bathrooms for a wheelchair, outdoor ramps, and safe walkways on the property.
Ken’s home is the second project Peak One Builders & Restoration has completed for JAH4WW since first partnering on a Peoria, AZ home for Joshua Bullis in 2011. Peak One is currently in the design phase with Jared Allen for another Arizona wounded veteran soldier, and hope to reveal his new home by the end of the year.
Meet Kenneth Champlin, Along With a Few of the Other Veterans Who Now Have New Homes Provided By Jared Allen’s Homes For Wounded Warriors Foundation, and Hear Their Story.
